Graphic Design Case Study - Cambridgeshire Estate Agent
The housing sector has been hit hard by the recent economic downturn and many estate agents have suffered. However changes in the housing market have not all been negative - especially for smaller independent estate agencies. The popularity of property websites such as Rightmove and Prime Location have given new estate agents the opportunity to compete with much larger names and place the properties on their books alongside properties being sold by the established agencies.
Over the last few years, Add Design have provided graphic design services to a number of different estate agents and letting agencies across the UK - some small and some much larger. However, we recently got the chance to work with a single estate agent from the very start - working with them on everything from branding to the production of marketing literature.

Design and Print Cambridgeshire: Logo Design
The project started with the owner coming to visit us. Although most of our graphic design work is completed online, some customers on larger projects prefer to travel for a face-to-face meeting. The owner already had a name for the business, but wanted our assistance with the branding and the development of new marketing material to launch the business.
The design brief we were given was to create a brand that was friendly yet professional. Although the client didn't want to look small, they wanted to emphasise the more personal aspect of their service to Cambridge customers. They were also keen to have a splash of colour to the presentation, so the logo would stand out on the For Sale signs - something they had also asked us to design.
Using our Unlimited logo design package, we created 6 different logo concepts. To help the client in their selection we ordered them from the most high-end and formal, through to the more informal and friendly presentations. The client picked out a favourite and through several rounds of drafting this was refined with a new colour scheme and new font into the final logo.

The client already had a sign company to produce for sale boards, but realised that the design would be vital in establishing the brand and attracting attention across Cambridgeshire for the new company. We produced 3 different sign designs to choose from using the new logo.
The sign design process was not just great for getting a good sign design, but also helped in fully developing the logo design into a wider brand for the company. A brand which we helped extend through a whole range of marketing material.

Design and Print Cambridgeshire: Flyer Design
The client was also a keen photographer so took some great photos of the new signs outside different properties. He also took photos of friends talking to agents in their new offices. These were both used in our A4 flyer design for distribution around Cambridgeshire. Despite being a new business, the aim of the flyer design was to help establish the company as an already trusted and familiar name in the area. Using the photos supplied we were able to emphasise the more personal aspects of the service which were part of the customers unique selling points.
We also provided a copywriting service to cut down the text supplied for the flyer and to establish the friendly and personal tone which was so vital to the overall brand image. The final A4 flyer design was printed on a 170gsm gloss paper to really pick-up on the bright colours of the branding.

Design and Print Cambridgeshire: Property Details Design
As a former manager for a large estate agent, the client knew how important appearance was in the creation of property details. Using a sample property as a guide, we created a property details template designed to establish the brand and also show the property for sale in the best possible light.
With every new property, the client provides us with photographs and descriptions for a short print run of details. Our PhotoShop expertise allows us to quickly brighten and crop images, and with access to high quality digital printing we can design a deliver new details within just a few days.
We also provided the client with an advert design template which he forwarded to the publications where the agency advertises. Each week, our client can send latest property details direct to the publication who use our design template to create the upcoming advert. This guarantees brand consistency and the very best quality advert in all publications.
Summary
Since launching in 2009, this Cambridgeshire Estate Agency has grown quickly and just taken on a second sales office in Cambridge. With all their material on file, we could make quick and easy address changes to the existing stationery and advert design and supply this directly to the new office ready for their opening.
