Graphic Design Case Study - Hertfordshire Internet Retailer

The internet has provided numerous opportunities for small businesses to turn into major UK suppliers. At Add Design we have a large number of clients who are internet retailers selling everything from gifts, to cosmetics, agricultural products and socks.

 

Although e-retailers do a large percentage of their promotion online, many need graphic design services to help with a whole range of other presentation and promotional work. This case study looks at the design and print work Add Design completed for a Wedding supplies company based in Hertfordshire to help them expand and become one of the leading internet retailers in the wedding services sector.

 

When this customer approached us they had a simple e-commerce website set-up and were struggling to cope with demand. Seeing a clear opportunity they had decided to invest in order to take the business to the next level and for this they needed a range of different design and print items.

Design and Print Hertfordshire: Stationery Design

The first task was to create a pack of professional stationery for the company. The stationery design would instantly add professionalism to all the communication sent to customers and suppliers, but was also an opportunity for us to help establish a branded look for the company.

 

Starting with the logo design from the website, the stationery design established an improved look, a new font and a new colour scheme for the company. This was then printed on a thicker 120gsm premium bright white paper to instantly ensure a look of quality. Working with the client, the letterhead design was created with the flexibility to be used for letters, invoices and delivery notes. This helped to maintain consistency and also reduce overall costs.

As well as selling directly to the public, the company also hired out products directly to wedding venues such as hotels and conference centres within Hertfordshire and surrounding counties. An A4 brochure was needed to show the range of products available and also establish the company as a high quality and reliable supplier. Trustworthiness was especially important as the company supplied products just before each wedding so these larger customers had to have complete faith that the company wouldn't let them down.

 

We created a 6 page A4 brochure design in the company brand and printed this on a high quality 250gsm gloss card. The 6 page format is great as it folds out into a wide 60cm wide spread which we used to show all the available products together in one space. The back pages were then used for ordering and other written information. By excluding prices from the brochure design the lifespan was increased and the customer decided to extend the print run so the brochure could also be sent out to general internet customers ordering samples online.

The samples available to order from the internet site were vital to securing a larger wedding day order. Not only did they need to be dispatched quickly, but the presentation of the sample itself was of upmost importance.

 

The client was currently using unbranded jiffybags which were both expensive to post and didn't establish quality in the mind of the customer. From our experience on other projects we suggested the use of PiP boxes for samples. These are card boxes sized exactly to the maximum large letter size allowed by Royal Mail. Using a box would dramatically improve the presentation and also allow the A4 leaflet to be included without being folded or creased. The cost per item was also £1 less postage than jiffy bags.

 

To finish off the presentation we designed and printed a full colour A4 label to brand and seal the box. As soon as the sample box arrived on the doorstep, the customer would be in no doubt about who sent it and the high quality presentation would help to a positive attitude towards the sample - hopefully securing the sale.

Now the new brand was established, the customer wanted to bring our graphic design work into the website. In consultation with the client we produced a range of web graphics to replace existing images on the website. This would create a fresh look for the website shop without the cost of an expensive redesign.

 

With our web design expertise we could advise on the best images to change, and produce alternatives in exactly the right format and file size. As soon as the images were replaced the website was instantly transformed to match the high quality presentation Add Design had established across the rest of the marketing material for the business.

Summary

When we first spoke to this company they were running from a home office. They have just moved into office space with a small team of staff to cope with demand.
