Leaflet Design: Keep it short and to the point - too much text can lead to a cluttered leaflet, which will make it less effective
Very often, when customers give us text for a leaflet design, there is too much of it to sit comfortably on the page if left unedited. This leads to over crowding and a less effective leaflet.
Information-based literature can be very text heavy. This is based on the belief that the intended audience, needs to be given as much information as possible. Whilst this is true of instruction manuals and legal documentation, it is not generally true of anything else.
Most of the time, people give flyers and leaflets a cursory look. If it is about something that may be of interest to them, they keep it for future reference. If not, it maybe discarded fairly quickly. With this in mind, the key to a successful flyer or leaflet aside from a striking design is too get your point across quickly and make the information as easy to understand as possible.

Leaflet Design Advice – Writing Effective Leaflet Copy
Think about your audience
Your graphic designer will combine colours, fonts, imagery and space – along with your carefully crafted messages, to appeal to your specific market sector. Your job is to work out what those key messages are.
The clearer you are about your target audience, the more effective your copy will be. Always keep in mind what is motivating your customers at any given time.
Don’t overload the reader
It is a mistake to assume that the person reading your leaflet is as interested in your product or service as you are. Think of your leaflet as a brief introduction or taster that leaves them wanting to know more. Encourage them to obtain additional information by contacting you or visiting your web site.
Keep your message simple and direct
What is the aim of the leaflet or flyer? After reading it, what do you want the reader to do? Once you have decided this, it will be easier to write compelling copy to motivate the recipient to take action.
Remember, less is more
Generally, the less cluttered your leaflet – the more effective it will be. Be selective about the information you include and keep it brief. Consider using bullets or numbers to summarise important information and highlight key points.
Also the fewer pages you have, the more cost effective your leaflet will be due to reduced design and printing costs.
Always link features to benefits
Benefits are what motivate people to take action. So make sure you translate the wonderful features of your product or service into tangible customer benefits.
Create interesting headings
Give your information different headings to make it easier for readers to scan. Remember that if the headings don’t capture their interest, they won’t read any of the rest. Use wording that is exciting or intriguing to hold their attention span.
