Logo Design FAQS
What is a logo and what is its purpose?
A logo is a graphical representation of a business' identity. Through the careful selection of colours, fonts and symbolism it is used to convey basic information about a company, such as its name and what it does, to a defined target market. It's purpose it to appeal to the customers that the business wishes to attract and communicate positive qualities such as desirability, quality and innovation.
What is brand design and how does it relate to logos?
Brand design is a service offered by graphic designers whereby they work to create a business' identity. It all starts with the logo, which is at the centre of any company's brand. The brand is then extended throughout all other marketing materials, aiming for consistency throughout.
Brand design considers who is the target audience and what will appeal to them. It also works to communicate information about the company such as the industry they are in, their position in the marketplace and who their customers are.
Does every business need a logo?
Yes all businesses need a logo – whether it is for creating business cards, letterheads or compliment slips, building a web site or for advertisements, leaflets or flyers. In all instances where the business owner wants to communicate with new or existing clients a graphical representation of the business' name will be beneficial.
Why use a professional logo designer?
A professional logo designer will produce a technically perfect logo. They will ensure that every pixel is exactly right for a professional, high quality finish.
In addition, a good logo designer will work with you to produce a logo that creates a powerful foundation for your business. They make sure it is appropriate to your industry, stands above the competition and most importantly gets remembered at the key moment a customer is ready to buy.

What makes a good logo?
A good logo must be appropriate to the industry it belongs to, it should be able to be used across a wide range of mediums (e.g. print, vehicle signage, web), it must be simple, easy to remember, technically perfect and incorporate positive symbolism. See our article what makes a good logo for more detailed information.
What makes a bad logo?
A bad logo could be one that is hard to remember, low quality, or too busy with colours or symbolism. Any logo that is not well finished will not be very effective in that it can raise doubts about the quality and professionalism of the company it represents.
