Letterhead Design | Business Stationery Design - Frequently Asked Questions About Letterheads

Corporate letterheads are one of our most popular items, and yet one of the most challenging to design. Balancing the demands of practicality, brand and impact, our professional designers work hard to make sure that every letterhead design we produce, truly represents the customer's business.

Here is some more information about our letterhead design service, and why having your letterhead created by Add Design can make all the difference.

Why is a great letterhead design important for my business?

The letterhead carries your business out into world. Whether it is a marketing letter, a quote or a personal communication to a customer, a great letterhead design instantly shows that your business means business.

People make judgements based on appearance all the time. Just as you may not employ someone who comes to interview dressed in torn jeans or buy jewellery from a shop with a tatty and dull exterior, a low quality letterhead design can raise doubts about quality in the mind of a customer.

By sending out a well designed and perfectly printed business stationery, you instantly show your customers that you care about the details and reinforce your brand as one to be remembered and taken seriously.

What is included in the letterhead design service?

Our letterhead design prices include our standard design service, high quality print and delivery all in one simple price. Starting from a detailed design brief, our designers create a first draft design and send it to you for feedback. Following your comments, the design is refined for the second draft. Again, we take feedback and then create a final design for your to view and approve for print. This three-draft design process is all included in the price.

If you change your mind or want to make further alterations, no problem. Additional drafts beyond our three-draft process are simply charged on our standard hourly rate.

What print options are available?

Our letterheads are printed on 100gsm bright white paper as standard. This is suitable for use in both ink-jet and laser printers. We also offer a thicker 120gsm paper option for a small additional charge (depending on quantity ordered).

Looking for something different? Then please just ask. We have previously printed letterheads on a whole range of different stock options from Conqueror paper to 100% recycled.

What should be on my letterhead?

There are a number of conventions and legal requirements which govern what should appear on your company letterhead. These may vary depending on how you intend to use your letterhead, so don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or uncertainties.

Legal requirements

Company Number. If you are a registered company then you must include your company number on all business correspondence and documentation. This should appear alongside the full name of the company and the part of the UK in which the business was registered.

Registered Office Address. If the registered address for the company is different from the correspondence address included on the letterhead, then it must also be included. If it is a secondary address, then the registered office is usually included in the footer of the letterhead alongside the company number.

Conventions

VAT Number. Your VAT number is not a legal requirement for a standard letterhead. However, if you are going to use the letterhead for invoices or credit notes then it should be included.

Company Logo. A high quality rendering of your logo should be prominent on the letterhead and supported by a choice of colours and design to build the overall brand. The aim is to make the identity of your company instantly recognisable.

Strapline. If you are not well-known, then a short statement about what you do can be included at the top of the letterhead. This can instantly help with brand recognition, and tells the reader whether you are relevant to their business or current needs.

Contact details. Your main contact details are essential – address, telephone, email and fax. If you want to promote contact via e-mail rather than phone, then the order and sizes of the details can often help suggest the contact method to the reader.

Accreditations. If you have professional qualifications or are a member of a professional body, then the letterhead is great for showing this to clients. Make sure you get a high quality version of the accreditation logo from the organisation, as well as any brand guidelines on how the logo has to be displayed on printed materials.

How many should I get printed?

There is no minimum or maximum run for letterheads. However due to design and print set-up costs, the cost per item reduces quite dramatically with a larger order. Therefore it is always worth considering a longer print run if your company details are unlikely to change.

Do you do electronic letterheads?

Yes. And for those who mainly communicate by email they are a great alternative to printed letterheads. We have two different electronic letterhead options.

  1. Print your own. We design your letterhead and produce it as a PDF for your own printer. This means that you can print off copies whenever you need them.

  2. E-letterheads. Created as a Microsoft Word file, our e-letterheads let you type your letter directly on the letterhead for printing, or e-mailing directly to a customer.
