Simple Design Tips Help Build Brands
A Rendlesham-based design agency has shared tips and warnings with business people to help them gain the most from their promotional materials, writes Sarah Cousins.
Add Design, based in the Bentwaters Business Park has revealed a number of design secrets to help small businesses stand out from the competition, even on a tight budget. A recent design council survey found that for every £100 a business spent on design, increased turnover by £225 and Add Design co-directors Justin Firth and Geraldine Clarke were keen to show business owners just how they could harness that advantage.
In the seminar, businesses were encouraged to background their own tastes and really concentrate on what would appeal to their customers. They were shown how to target these customers by their likes and dislikes, interests, socio-economic background, aspirations and lifestyle habits. A top-tip was to effectively piggyback the hard work already undertaken by the big brands to identify what might appeal to different customer types.
Other tips included being different but not too different and the importance of the right logo as the first step to building a strong brand. Participants were shown how to concentrate on selling the real benefits of their products and the advantage which can be gained by choosing the right images and promotional text. There were also practical pointers on choosing the right size, weight and type of advertising material and how the web can help everyone to increase and preserve brand awareness.
